Summer in Portland II - An Old Fling's on the Line
Ultramarine Photo embraces cuffing season and reflects on its warm, sunny past with Summer in Portland II, a breakneck tour the Pacific Northwest's crown jewel.
Fall in love between the roses, do something impulsive and text that cutie back ... photo licensing has never worn pants like this.
These photos were made by moi, Eliana Mendez (your curator), while drunk on joy.
We hope that you enjoy them.
They don’t tell you this
but colors are more vivid in the darkness of night
something about the backdrop
Shine a light on me baby
let me show you my color
it’s red
A Real Home
You gotta know
how long it took me
to find a place like this
The Luchador
Last summer I dated this guy
who didn’t believe in magic
abracadabra
vasectomy
pork pie hat
no more canker sores
call me merlin
you little bitch
Blooming
some things blossom
while others die
energy is finite
one dream at a time
Baseball Game
The kids won a championship
and celebrated by shaving their beards
all smooth
Every evening I meet someone new
who styles their hair totally unlike me
white eyeliner dots under their lids
I can’t look away
my metamor taught me a good trick:
you trap a frog under a rock
and after awhile
it gives up
A friend I met wants to put warmers under the sidewalks
for the creatures to lay
warmly
luxury for all
warm bellies all year round
even after the summer sun
finally fades
Yellow roses are my favorite
they tend to smell like citrus
and get stronger throughout the season
check for bees before
remember you’re allergic
What’s the old saying?
get along while the getting is good
the coming and going
never gets old
I don’t see any of the people
from our old life
anymore
they disappeared almost overnight
probably thinking the same thing ‘bout me
cept I left a note, it read
‘see ya later, sauerkraut’
Exuding sex appeal
is a part time job
for the thicc and mighty
Hi, I saw you walking in the neighborhood yesterday
you looked so good in your jean shorts
did you change your hair?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the weekend we spent on the coast
that soup with the tomatoes
and when you kissed me under the trees
do you still think about it?
Dad’s business failed
in ‘16 and the family ate rice and beans
for an entire winter
when he got hired at the warehouse
following summer
bought you all the beef jerky
you could ever want
your stomach ached
until the fourth of July
Do you still read a book a week?
or have you slowed down to consider
that you might be skipping lines
the juiciest ones, too
full of secrets
every year we had to reset our passwords
and we weren’t allowed to use
any of the words
we’d used before
We can’t be friends anymore
I’m moving south before the winter
Please don’t write
I want to forget you
I’ll be back
before I’m dead and you’re wasted
It’s been real
one big jump
